Gift-Wrapped Apartment Buildings…

…seem to be pretty common these days.

You foreigners might think that these are birthday presents for someone after you read that Finland is the most prosperous nation in the world according to a Brittish study. No, we are not that prosperous.

In the study prosperity was not measured only in euros or dollars but things like health, freedom, security and political governance were also considered.

Finland’s Southern Coast…

…is one big archipelago thanks to the last ice age. See all the islands around Helsinki on the computer screen of Greenpeace’s flagship Rainbow Warrior.

You can see a similar view at aprs.fi that shows positions of ships on Google Maps. Navigate along the coast to west and it gets a lot wilder. Hitting a rock with your boat is very easy on this coast if you don’t follow the instructions.

I wonder when Google will do something about the Helsinki street names in their map. Now some streets have Swedish names, some Finnish and some have both. Must be very confusing for you foreigners.

Kamppi Shopping Center

Kamppi shopping center is the largest in the city center and fourth largest in the capital region. Ten years ago here was a huge square full of buses but now the bus terminals are underground.

Autumn at Klippan

How I wished that a big ship with sails would have sailed past this scene. On a regular day that would have been wishful thinking but thanks to Tervasaaren tynnyri sailing event there were lots of them in the area.

I waited but it was always the wrong kind of ships that sailed here. Just when I was about to leave, a big white ship was doing exactly what I was waiting for. But it did a U-turn only some seconds before it was in the perfect spot.
