Scandinavia Is Too Cool For iPhone…

…or so it seems after all the freezing publicity it has recently got here. Most famously Apple refused to fix a phone that exploded in weather that wasn’t even cold by Norwegian standards.

Finnish consumer authorities commented that a mobile phone sold in Finland must be able stand the local conditions unless the seller explicitly stated that the phone can’t be used during the winter. Like you can see, here people trust that you can use a phone outdoors based on years of experience.

Fighting Against the…

…snow.

The life size statue of Gunnar “GeeBee” Bärlund is hardly visible from the street. If you are directly facing him you’ll see just his fist and eyes.

Helping a Tram…

…with wires.

It will probably take several years or decades before I see this again so I’ll post even when the wires are not visible. They would have been visible against almost every other building in the neighbourhood…

Guggenheim Museum Is Coming to Helsinki…

…or at least 2 million euros will be spent to explore whether a branch of the well-known museum could be opened.

…outdoor game will be played for the very first time on February 5th between the capital city rivals HIFK and Jokerit at the Olympic Stadium in front of about 34 000 spectators. This poster is from Jokerit’s home arena.

Since proper winters almost disappeared from Helsinki, people were worried whether it will be cold enough but now the organizers are struggling with the huge amount of snow that the capital has received.

Looking for a Place…

…to land.

During the winters mallards gather at the rare spots where water hasn’t frozen.

Vänö Travelling in Front of the King’s Gate…

…a few days before ice prevented it to dock at Suomenlinna. Those heading to the former sea fortress jumped on the ice and walked 50 meters to the shore and the ship continued its journey.
