…during this autumn of photography. Hopefully next year I will have more time to capture the colors and the light.

…Helsinki. This was taken during their last night on Senate’s square. From the official site I was not able to find the next location of their world tour yet.
The capital’s main square is empty most of the time and normally locals have no reason to stay there so all kinds of happenings are always welcome.

…is whooper swan (laulujoutsen) and the national tree is silver birch (rauduskoivu, commonly just koivu). The tree is easy to understand as you can see birches everywhere but Finns almost killed the whooper swans half a century ago.
There were only 15 Finnish pairs left in 1949 but thanks to education and conservation work they are now counted in thousands.
The swans you see in Helsinki are likely to be mute swans. The yellow color is the most distinct difference if you compare this whooper swan to a photo of a mute swan that I have posted earlier.

It’s depressing to think that nobody probably noticed that this was taken with a compact camera and not with a lot more expensive DSLR camera like the majority of photos in this blog.
