For Whom the Blog…

…tolls.

After I stopped posting daily I’ve been thinking about a new direction for the blog. I’ve had questions like:

  • Should I only post my better photos or should I post more often with less quality?
  • Will this be a photo blog or a Helsinki blog that has photos?
  • What is the role of text in this blog?
  • Will I strictly post just one photo in a post or will I more frequently include several photos in a post? (to tell a story, several photos from an event, …)
  • What themes the blog should have? (So far I’ve just shot everything that moves or doesn’t move.)

So my both readers, what do you think? What would you like to see here? Why are you here?

The only thing that is clear is that the blog must help me to to improve my photography skills in one way or another.

Love at…

…Kaisaniemi park.

See them from another angle.

A Swan is Having a…

…ball.

Dragon Boat Race is no Longer Held…

…in central Helsinki but near Seurasaari island. So…

…compositions like this are no longer possible and it would be more difficult to get close to the action…

…to reshoot something like this where dragon boats would be more visible…

…or something like this with more action.

Otherwise it would have been a perfect after work photography exercise for tomorrow.

The Random Traveller (satunnainen matkailija) Died Today at the Age of 72…

…and you foreigners have no idea what a loss humankind has just suffered. In his popular tv program Random Traveller foreign correspondent Juhani Mäkelä introduced places and phenomenons from all over the world in his unique and humorous way.

The finest hour of Finnish television was when he gave an emotional speech at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London. He was very compassionate and sorry for you foreigners because we Finns can visit foreign countries and we are at home in Finland but you foreigners are always foreigners no matter where you are. Someone in the audience thought that he was a good speaker but wished he hadn’t spoken in Finnish.

I’ve used “You foreigners” in several posts in this blog since I also feel bad for your terrible fate of being outsiders. Now you know where the phrase comes from. My intention was to use it a lot more but when publishing a photo a day there really wasn’t much time for the texts.

Luckily some of the random travels can still be seen at YLE’s elävä arkisto including “Luxembourg is so small that even a Finn is allowed to be amazed how small it is.” I just watched it a few weeks ago. Where is the boxed set DVD of his travels?

Hiroshima Anniversary…

…is remembered today August 6th in many places around the world. In Helsinki lanterns are floated on Töölö bay near the Opera house at about 10pm (= when it gets dark).

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

The End…

…of this blog as we know it. The circus is over.

After posting at least one photo a day for two years I think the blog is no longer serving its original purpose “to force me to take photographs regularly so that I would develop as a photographer.”

I will still post photos on this blog but less frequently. Even I don’t know the direction where the blog is now heading.

Bright Colours Remind Me of…

…the annual Helsinki Samba Carnaval.

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the blog and the photo was taken when I was still thinking whether I should become part of this daily photoblogging madness or not.

It’s a CDP theme day again so click here to view thumbnails for all participants to see bright colours from all around the world.

This is no longer my main blog, see Learning to See in Helsinki for more frequent updates.

Favourite photos from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
