Photos from Helsinki Samba Carnaval 2010…

…that were held for the 20th time. It was the biggest event of Helsinki day – 12th June is the birthday of Helsinki.

Before the parade there were performances…

…and a chance to have a closer look at the sambistas.

To mark the anniversary, samba schools weren’t competing against each other but performing together.

People don’t usually dress like this when the temperature is around 10 degrees Celsius.

People of all ages were seen…

…and even some men were allowed to perform…

…but let’s get back to business.

Photos that freeze the dancers don’t do justice to the dance…

…and neither do my skills to show movement using longer exposures.

The parade was led by this year’s self-confident carnaval king  Sami Saikkonen and queen Kirsi Lindroos. Remember to shout hurray if you see His Majesty.

Some more samba photos will be published in this blog during the next few days.
