Christmas starts officially at Christmas Eve noon when Christmas peace is declared from the former capital Turku. The tradition dates back to medieval times. Long time ago punishments were more severe if a criminal act was done during the 20 day Christmas peace. The declaration is broadcasted using radio, tv and internet. After too much Christmas delicacies have been consumed, impatient kids finally get their relief when Santa Claus pays a visit in the evening and gives the gifts. Santa Claus (Joulupukki) lives in Korvatunturi, Finland.
