November is probably the most depressing month in Helsinki so this week it is time to remember the sun and colors of the summer. I will show you photos from the Helsinki Samba Carnival 2008.

Tomorrow the party is over and there will be something else than samba in this blog.

Finland Hall and its infamous marble from Carrara.

Finlandia Hall had its star moment in 1975 when Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (today OCSE) was held there. That was a rare meeting between the 35 cold war top leaders of Europe and North America. It is believed that the conference relaxed tensions between East and West although there were little concrete results.

In reality all these guys came to see me as I was born during the conference.

Carrara marble is infamous here as it deteorirates in Finnish climate. The marble has already been replaced once – for some strange reason with Carrara marble.
