Happy 100th Birthday, Havis Amanda!

Exactly 100 years ago Havis Amanda statue was unveiled. Some people didn't accept a nude woman to be displayed on public.

Havis Amanda statue was unveiled on 20th September 1908. Some people didn't accept a nude woman to be on display in public.

Manta, as she is commonly known, is the center of attention every may day eve at 6pm. University studens first wash her and then put a Finnish student cap on her head. The area is full of people who also put their newer and older student caps on their heads to mark the offical start of may day celebrations.

The text relating to 22nd September doesn’t refer to Manta but to the carless day to be held on Monday. This was the only thing I found that made the photo different from a photo taken on any other day.

Manta

This is how she looks exactly 100 years old. She looks a lot younger, doesn't she?
